Public Service Act 2020
The Public Service Act 2020 ensures workplaces are inclusive for all and organisations are required to promote diversity and fairness. Those in charge must remove barriers preventing equal employment access and career progression.
Gender and Ethnic Pay Action Plan
New Zealand Foreign Affairs & Trade developed the Gender and Ethnic Pay Action Plan in 2021. The plan supports the Ministry’s goal of improving gender equality and inclusion of women. An updated plan was published for 2022/23, focusing on gender, Māori, Pacific and Ethnic pay gaps.
Human Rights Act 1993
The Human Rights Act 1993 applies to employment discrimination. This includes job advertisements, application forms, interviews, and job offers. The act is in play before and after the job and applies to unpaid workers and independent contractors. In the event of being discriminated against during recruitment, complaints can be made to the Human Rights Commission and the Human Rights Review Tribunal.
